Herbs Guide

Thyme

From February to April, sow thinly, 1.5 cm deep, into carefully prepared, well-dug, healthy soil that has already been watered.

Typically, seedlings germinate within around 14-21 days.

Keep the plants well-watered. Water plants thoroughly after planting especially during warm days.

Basil

From April to May, sow thinly, 1.5 cm deep, into carefully prepared pots indoors.

Germination usually takes 10-14 days and once the seedlings have germinated and have grown 10-15cm tall, transplant the seeds or spread the plants 30-50cm apart outdoors.

Water plants thoroughly after planting especially during warm summer days.

Mint

From March to July, sow thinly, 1.5 cm deep, into carefully prepared, well-dug, healthy soil that has already been watered, right where they are to crop.

Typically, seedlings emerge around 14-21 days.

No thinning is needed, but during dry months, keep the plants well-watered.

Every three weeks, regular sowings will guarantee a steady supply of mint throughout the year.

Cress

Scatter your cress seeds across the surface of a damp kitchen towel.

To keep the seeds from drying out, place the towel into a shallow container, gently press the seeds down to ensure they touch the moisture, and then cover with cling film.

After roughly a week of growing on a tissue, plant your germinated cress common on a layer of seed compost in order to grow mature cress plants.

If they are maintained moist, they will begin to grow in a few days and harvest when the cress common reaches 5cm tall.
